WHY THIS ROOM

Your pattern doesn't stay inside you.

Every leader has a default under pressure. You push harder, go quiet, stay busy enough to avoid the one conversation that matters, or smooth it over so nobody has to feel bad.

None of that stays private. Your team experiences the behavior, they adapt to it, and repeated adaptation is what culture actually is. You are not only managing your own stress. You are setting the terms everyone else works under.

69% of employees say their manager affects their mental health as much as their spouse does — more than their doctor or their therapist.

That is the job you actually took.

THE MECHANISM

The part of you that makes good decisions goes offline first.

Under threat, the brain's main source of norepinephrine recruits the amygdala to actively suppress prefrontal function — perspective, restraint, weighing consequences, holding the long view.

This is a mechanism, not a metaphor. Judgment doesn't merely feel harder under pressure. The circuit that produces it is measurably suppressed.

Which is why the decision you had to repair felt completely reasonable at the time.

WHAT HAPPENS IN THE ROOM

Ninety minutes, and most of it is yours.

This is a working session, not a lecture. You will spend a meaningful part of it writing privately. Nothing you write is collected, photographed, or shared.

0:00One decision you had to repairYou write it down before anything else. We come back to it at the end.
0:08The cascadeHow a private pattern becomes a shared culture.
0:16The window of toleranceAn established clinical model, translated for people who run organisations. Regulated does not mean relaxed.
0:26The four patternsFight, flight, freeze — and the fourth one almost nobody names out loud.
0:44Your warning sign mapThe core exercise. Body, thoughts, behaviour, and what it's like for your team when you're in it.
0:56Two moves you'll actually useMatched to your own direction. Chosen now, for a moment when you won't be thinking clearly.
1:06The leadership pauseBack to the decision from the first five minutes, and the moment you could have caught it.
